Ah, it feels nice to be back after about a 2 1/2 month hiatus. Gotta love moving and starting a new job for those of you who didn't know. Of course throw in the holidays and well, I'm sure you all understand. Now, down to business! I thought I'd take a look at what I believe the world of professional wrestling will over in the coming year. While a lot of people are looking back at 2010, I'd like to look forward. I'll include a bit more of my booking for Steve's brainchild of a podcast segment entitled "You're the Booker", where the last 2 weeks we've been booking Wrestlemania the way that we would like to if in a creative position.
Before I look at Wrestlemania though, let's look ahead at 2011;
For WWE-
*Don't be shocked if WWE does absolutely nothing to it's current business model. Sorry to say this, but it looks like PG-WWE is here to stay for a while. They're main focus is on international expansion so look for more house shows and tours overseas, and primarily more outlets of TV programming and on-demand services (Internet based as well) in 2011.
*I would be willing to bet money that we see 3 new champions in 2011. As in, two new, up and coming stars to hold the WWE Title or World Title for some period of time. In 2009 we had Sheamus, in 2010 we had Jack Swagger and the Miz. In 2011? My money is on Wade Barrett and John Morrison. The former "Tuesday Night Delight" must improve his promo skills though to make this happen. Lastly, Alberto Del Rio seems to be a worthy future candidate.
*No more Nexus. Yep, for those of you who loved them or hated them (Personally, I thought it was not very well-booked near the end), they'll be gone. Who sticks around on WWE programming? My money is on Gabriel, Husky Harris, and Otunga. The rest? Hopefully there's room, but with NXT happening every few months, there is only so much room on the roster. Speaking of NXT...
*NXT lasts for all of 2011. A bit of a stretch, but I think the show can do well if it's taken seriously. Thankfully, lately it has been.
*The longest title reign? In 2011 I'm putting the over/under at 3 months. Don't expect there to be a lot of reigns that are "over". I'd go as far as to say only five in 2011 are reigns that last longer than 3 months.
TNA-
*There are about 129 face/heel turns in the calendar year. You can take that to the bank, and heck, it may even end up being more than that.
*Beer Money and the MCMG have another early match of the year for 2011 candidate contest. I know I'm not the only one when I say that I can't wait for more matches with these two teams.
*Katie Lea will actually wrestle. I know right? It's been long enough since they debuted her with Angelina Love but as far as Knockout matches go, Katie Lea vs. Mickie James or Tara? Sign me up.
ROH-
*Davey Richards will be the first NEW ROH World Champion of 2011.
*Kevin Steen enters the World Title picture. I know he lost to Generico at Final Battle, but I still say we haven't seen the last of him.
*GoFightLive.tv crashs on at least 2 more occasions for ROH iPPVs. I hope I'm wrong, but with how poorly prepared they were for Final Battle, this shouldn't be seen as a stretch.
DGUSA-
*Jon Moxley makes a serious run at the Open the Freedom Gate Championship.
*The company gets more exposure. Sure, this is broad but it's my list. >.<
*The best PPV of the year goes to a DGUSA PPV.
So there you have it peeps, a few of my early predictions for 2011 in the world of wrestling. To wrap up this epic return blog, I'll rundown my current, in-progress Wresltemania card.
Opener- US Title Match, Tyson Kidd vs. Daniel Bryan/Result- Bryan by submission in 15-20 minutes
Match 2- Tag Team Title Match, Uso Brothers vs. Masked Team from FCW vs. Kaval and Justin Gabriel/Result- Anyone in 15 minutes
Intermission- Highlight video, give back to the fans. (Still thinking on this one, heh)
Semi Main Event- The Undertaker vs. John Cena
There will definitely be more to this as Steve and I keep on yapping about how we would book Wrestlemania 27. Throw me all the feedback you can regarding not only the booking, but the podcast/blog in general. Keep up with our Facebook page over at www.facebook.com/thecommonfan and our Twitter @TheCommonFan for updates on when the next show will air. More than likely it will be after the holidays and we're trying to gear up for the BlogTalkRadio format change in the coming two months.
